Frog cages in need of a face lift!

Warm weather has led to lots of snow melting on the refuge.

Hello everyone. It has been so warm these past couple of days, I know that myself, and all of Madison have been very delighted. Now that most of the snow is gone, we have started to ramp up things around the refuge.

First thing on our list is to give some much-needed attention to our frog rearing cages. These cages are the cages that we use in our Head-start program for the federally endangered Crawfish Frogs. The refuge has used these cages to raise young Crawfish frogs in an environment where there are no predators present. This allows us to help grow the number of Crawfish Frogs by increasing the odds of survival in the juvenile stages of the frog's life.

The project has been easy so far. The only challenging thing about the process is getting the rivets off of the cages. After that the process is smooth sailing. We then measure and cut out the new screen. The final step is putting some sealant down under the new screen and then new rivets and it is good as new!
